your talking about the one on the drivers side rear of the block its a PITA
you have to pull the VE the lift pump throttle bracket injector lines its just a real bitch
i had to do mine it developed a bad oil leak right back there and you have to pull the tappet covet off (that's the cover that runs the full length of the block) once its off it will come apart in your hands its just a little plate and what looks like an sos pad to keep some of the oil in i replaced it with one of the silver pads you clean your dished with works fine been running that for the last 10,000 miles go to your parts house and buy a new breather tube too cut the end towards the ground at a 45* angle with the longest part facing the rear of the truck (see pic) you want it to hang down about 3-6 in form the oil pan this makes a vacuum effect and pulls the fumes out of the block :jump:

thanks guys, thats the info i needed. although not good news! thats alot of work to clean something that might be clogged! on the other hand if i dont i risk the chance of blowing out my new rear main seal. now i am wondering if there is any way icould cut the elbow shorter (leaving enough to get a hose on and reach in ther with needle nose pliers and pull out said clogged sos pad to avoid having to take all that stuff off every time it needs to be cleaned.

thanks for all the advice. i did some testing and found the vent to be open so im not going to worry about it. but my new main seal seams like it might be leaking a little already and now there is a leak that developed on the injection pump and if that isnt enough it looks like the heater core just sprung a leak! sO I just went in the house and started drinking!

hey at least it isn't as bad as what i just went through.... blew the head gasget, found out my stock head was cracked, sent the rad out to get cleaned out... to get a call from the rad shop telling me my rad was junk, so new rad, head studs and 60# springs were on back order till next mounth had to cancel that order and ended up paying out the tail for the stuff at a local diesel/rip off shop. and now i think my water pump may be on it's way out. hell i just put $1500 into the truck! i still love the thing tho
