What kind of transmission is in a 92 dodge 2500. And is the transmission any good for towing or just daily driving?

It is a getrag G360. i tow 28k lbs. alot and it has 300k miles on it and it holding up realy well. if you over fill the tranny 1 quart overfull it will extend the life of the tranny ALOT also

the getrag is said by alot of people to be a "bad transmission" but thats mostly people who have never had one. i love mine, it shifts very smooth and ive been really happy with it. as stack said, overfill it by 1 quart and use either a syncromesh (i think thats what its called) or a nice synthetic 5w-30 oil. the choice of fluid is another debate in itself. but a quick getrag fluid search will find you alot of info on that

Thanks I was just wonderin because I'm thinkin of buying a dodge even though I'm a chevy guy, just because of the fact that they have cummins in them, and are pretty easy to find.

im a chevy guy too, thats why i put the cummins in my chevy:tu:

That's what I was thinkin I have a old k35 but it has a crate motor 6.2 in it and don't really want to get rid of it for no reason, and the cummins I'm gonna buy has no problems with the body or frame so for now they will stay as they are.

just my two cents, last time i towed for work i weighed in at 23k the rag still hasn't failed.....curently having other problems but oh well
