The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge

what happened to begin with? im so lost

pewder 02-14-2010 10:16 AM

They were talking about his problems starting in another thread, then he started this one to figure out why the turbo wasn't spinning. Guess the ether killed the turbo somehow.:w2:

So what happened that it killed the turbo?

swamprat 02-14-2010 11:31 AM

turbo corroded up on the exhaust side keeping the intake side from spinning, all from sitting a year.would this restrict the engine enough for a no start , and would this cause the engine to work against itself causing slower starter spin?

i doubt it would not start with a jammed turbo!
not sure whats happening sorry man

depending on how clogged up it is it could cause it not start, if its not spinning, it could be blocking all airflow into the engine. no air = no start

A seized turbo is a big restriction. I've never experienced it, but I can imagine it causing a no-start on an engine that's none-too-inclined to start anyways.

Remove the turbo and see if the engine starts. It isn't doing any good seized. That way you can at least see if the turbo is causing the no-start, or if you're having another problem.

I have had turbos stick on boats before and the engine still started. It won't flow much but it will idle.

stillcummin 02-14-2010 08:38 PM

the air and exhaust will still move through, but it will hinder the startup.Add a slightly clogged filter and your done.
