dumb pump question?
 

Do I have to worry about a runaway when adjusting the smoke screw or turning the diaphragm or is it just when you adjust the fuel screw? Also if I adjust the smoke screw or rotate the diaphragm do I need to adjust the idle? Thanks, I'm new to this VE pump thing and I don't want to mess anything up.

Only when you mess with the full power screw.

I did not know this. It will still kill with the electric fuel cutoff, correct?

When in a run away situation? I wouldn't count on it. Only (certain) way to stop a run away is to cut off the air.

Thanks for the info, hopefully I will never have to experience a runaway, but better safe than sorry.

So this morning I turned the smoke screw in, tried 2 turns, but then the lock nut did not have enough threads remaining to lock. So I backed it out to 1.5 turns. Anyone else had this issue?:humm:

When I turned mine in 2 turns it ended up flush with the lock nut.:humm:

Did a previous owner tamper with adjustments?:humm:

I guess I could brutally rip the air cleaner off and put my belly against the inlet:ouch:. But I am really glad I read this. You can never tell and with an engine screamin I most likely would not have thought of the air - I would have tried only fuel when seconds start counting and you are not thinking:scare2:.

The truck was all stock, bought from the original owner, only serviced by the dealer. The cap on the smoke screw had never been taken off before (still had the original black paint on it). With the screw turned in 1.5 turns, it is well below the top of the retaining nut, yet still does not smoke.:nope:

i think u need to pull the top off the afc and rotate the pin/diaphragm.
