Clocking the transfer case...?

Has anyone clocked an NP205 t-case on the back of a Getrag? With all my lift I was wondering if I could clock the transfer case down a little bit to get a more comfortable driveline angle on the front driveshaft...and maybe open up a little room for a 5" exhaust. Anyone have any suggestions? :humm:

tltruckparts 02-03-2010 06:17 PM

ive thought about that too. the only reason i didnt do it was because i thought it would cause lubrication problems

cumminsblazer 02-04-2010 02:04 AM

ya it can be done they make a kit for it on advancedadapters

seandonato73 02-04-2010 11:06 PM

i would think you would be able to just trun it down a bolt hole. not?

cumminsblazer 02-05-2010 12:07 AM

not sure about that i personaly have never had a big enough lift that i needed to clock my t case but i am sure advancedadapters makes a kit for it to be done i have seen it on ther site under np 205 and i have seen it done on some show trucks

93_Fummins 02-05-2010 02:47 AM

Okay, I'll keep an eye out for an adaptor kit then.

Thanks for the input!

tltruckparts 02-05-2010 06:35 PM

i searched everywhere for the clock kit for a 205 on their site and they only make em for jeeps it looks like.

Yeah, I just checked that too. I think I'm going to inspect the flanges on the adaptor between the Getrag and the 205 and see if maybe there is a way to drill new holes to clock it. :humm: Not the preferred method, I'm sure, but it's worth looking at while I have the tranny and t-case out to put a rebuilt tranny top on it and a new clutch in. :w2:

How much lift are you runnin cuz my dads got 14 inches of lift on a 85 dodge and we never clocked the t-case he just baught some special drive shafts that could hold to the steep angle

I'm running 10"-12" lift total, but the issue isn't driveline angle as much as it's making room for bigger exhaust without having to mount the engine/tranny all the way over to the driver side. See, the Fords were designed for everything to favor the passenger side and the t-case to drop on the driver side. I'm fighting the doghouse and crossmember design by trying to favor the driver side and leave room for the t-case AND a monster exhause on the passenger side. If I could clock the t-case a bit, I could potentially make room for 5" exhaust while still keeping the engine as centered as possible. It was an idea anyway. I guess I could always just make things easy and cut a hole in the hood for a stack, eh? :humm:

smokin_93_cummins 02-05-2010 08:56 PM

Yea a hood stack would work:tu:. I dont know if any one has an adapter for it but I had thought before about puttin a ford 205 and dana 60 front axle under my dodge so it would drop on the drivers side and you could run whatever exhaust you want

In all reality there is no NEED for 5" exhaust, If you WANT it thats different, but you wont make any more power with it.

tltruckparts 02-06-2010 12:12 PM

i cant imagine having 5" exhaust either. my 4" flows way good and its sooo loud already im going to put a muffler on it. with my radiator all the way up, if im on the throttle i cant hear my cd player the slightest bit

RSWORDS 02-06-2010 01:28 PM

I wish I could adjust the volume on my radiator...

Agreed. However, I wasn't worried so much about power gains as much as backpressure on twins. Will it affect backpressure or spooling much if you neck down the 5" outlet on an HT3B to a 4" exhaust? I figured just run it out all 5", which is why I was looking for room... :humm:

seandonato73 02-07-2010 06:19 PM

he has a point a lot of twin kits come with a 5" down pipe, but i don't know how much it would effect flow or anything... i know my 4" really helped a lot on spool up time.

RSWORDS 02-07-2010 07:39 PM

Alot come with 5" DP's because the large turbos they use have 5" flanges. You should not see a difference. 5" is HUGE as far as flow goes... Overkill...

seandonato73 02-07-2010 07:51 PM

but then why would you want to neck down the secondary turbo to 4", why wouldn't you just ask for a 4" outlet on the secondary turbo if 5" is too much flow?

So, there won't be an issue if I just adapt my 4" downpipe to the 5" flange on an HT3B or other big secondary?

cumminsblazer 02-08-2010 12:53 AM

alright so i looked for that clocking plate and couldnt find it but i have seen them before and for the room for the 5" why not put a 2" body lift on dont go 3" shows to much but a 2"isnt really noticeable and plus u get a more lift for cheap :tu:

tltruckparts 02-08-2010 01:05 AM

body lifts are a horrible way to lift trucks they ruin the integrity of the truck especially in a rollover. and a body lift will solve absolutely nothing in fitting his exhaust. the exhaust isnt hitting the cab, there is a tight squeeze between frame rail and transfer case
