strange idle in the cold
hi all i went out 2 start my truck this morning & it decided 2 make the strangest sounds it was rocking over like it had a super cam in it like a hot rod is this safe? it only does it when i first start the truck on cold cold mornings it only did this once b4 to me by the way it was like hard detonation if i hold the throttle a lil ovr idle it runs fine till she warms up

sounds to me like your timing is getting advanced or retarded too much for the cold start. or possibly air in the lines on start up

It's typical if a little bit more fuel solves the problem.
Bump the idle speed up a tad and you'll be fine. |
it was bout 16 degrees F when i last started the truck & had this problem &only a few revolutions out of the starter
|
i had the same problem when it got down in the negative degrees. the shop said it was probably my heater grid and getting to much fuel. i came down to cali where it hasnt got below 60 and havent had the problem since. probably nothing to serious. hopefully

arite so im not gonna worry 2 much about it then ill jus rev the truck up a lil bit when i start it & hold it for a lil while
|
our service truck at work has a 2nd gen in it..... no grid heater its a major pain to start and keep running till it gets a little heat in it. normally have to hold it at half throttle for like a minit or it will shut off. starts fine when it's warm.

if you can, plug it in, I plug mine in all night.
|
i do normally plug it in but on those rather inebriated nights 1 tends to forget lol & thats exactly wat i do throttle wise & like u said once its started & warmed up once theres no problem with it
