getting started in a 91 ctd n/i...

hello to all and thank you for letting me be a part of this forum! i am purchasing a very clean 1991 3/4 ton 4x4 non-intercooled cummins w/3 spd auto. it is bone stock, and i would like to " wake it up", without spending more than $800 or endagering my trans, which is in really good shape. I'm thinking intake( home-made probably, to save $), exhaust, smaller turbo housing (16cm?) should i turn up the pump? would i need a fuel pin and the spring? just looking to help the thing run stronger than stock, but i'm on a budget...like we all are;-] i will pull a trailer 2-3 times/year, mostly drive 55-60mph empty...any suggestions? Thanks!

welcome to diesel bombers and if you wanna easy and cost effective way to get started first and the biggest cost of getting started is buying your gauges and gauge pod which you can obtain from our sponsers here at diesel bombers really recommend the purchase of gauges so you will always know where your at on upgrades and the gauges are pyrometer, boost and tranny temp and check this out http://dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/more_power/Power_ve.htm it will help you get started and good luck keep in touch and definetly ask any question you want on here. you here all the time on here no question is a dumb question so ask:yeah:

get the governor spring.. cheap mod and WELL worth it
then go for a fuel pin

then turbo upgrades.

Just start with the free pump tunes. They will net around 75hp which is alot! The non-intercooled trucks have bigger nozzles so pump tweaks really wake it up.Injector upgrades wont gain much.2 turns on the fuel screw max the afc and back off the max rpm screw stop.I like to fine tune the excessive smoke with the afc spring seat(starwheel)You can reach a point where youll make very little smoke but still have all the power!

cool. thats what i thot, just so i can keep an eye on my limits...

will the pin take my mpg's down? (assuming i drive responsibly)

is there a link showing the " how-to" process for the pump screws? i'm lookin' to wake it up, but keep it simple, hoping to not bring negative mpg's...

Check out the 1st gen "Sticky". Lot's of info about the ve pump in there.:c:
Also, your mpgs shouldn't get hurt if you have self control, but good luck with that.:D
