1st gen motor

ok i was wondering what is the best year 1st gen cummins to look for if you wanna get more power out of it. i know in 91 or so they started putting the intercoolers on them are the previous years basically the same motor without an intercooler?:ty:

none intercooled engines have larger stock injectors so they can support more horsepower in a stock form. someone else will chime in with more info.

The problem with the early heads with larger injectors is that the heads tend to crack near the injector holes.

so i would wanna look for a intercooled cummins?

intercooled is always the way to go IMO. just keep temperatatures in a better range. and you can make power more easily without worrying about your EGTs so quick

Bob

Never been a problem for any one that I know of.

Alot of the big pullers and racers have craked heads even with teh 7mm injector bores. It's not a big crack that lets comprssion out, just a surface thing.

x2 we see a lot of cummins b heads at work, 12 valces arn't really bad for cracks, alltho they do tent to develop them on the top of the head near the rocker mounts, and if you glowplug the head, at the valve seats, 24 valves are a different story, i have junked more of those heads then i can count, some arn't too bad other look like you let a spyder loose in between the valves. thats one of the reaseons i will never own a 24v

OK SOUNDS LIKE INTER COOLED 12V IS THE WAY TO GO:jump:
