hx40 questions
I have a stock 1993 with pump mods and 366 spring. Will I be able to spin a hx40 with 4inch exhaust with my stock injectors. I want something i can grow into. I use the truck to daily drive and tow my 1983 dodge offroad rig total weight 15500 lbs
the turbo specs are 16cm3 housing wastegated Compressor wheel: 60mm in. x 85mm ex. 7 Blades 4 inch compressor inlet 3 inch compressor outlet t3 flange 4 inch vband exhaust outlet |
its its a t3 flange its not a true 40 its prolly a taiwanese knockoff
|
I don't have any idea. I have found it on E-bay there are a few of them for 300$
|
There are HX40's with T3 flanges that are not knockoffs.
I picked up mine for a lot less because it had an HX50 flange - between a T3 and T4. Mine's 7 blade compressor and 60/62/17. BUT I've got 6x.016 sticks. It lit pretty good w/stock sticks but really likes the new ones. |
id be careful bout the turbos on ebay man :nope:

as for your engine spinning hx40, id think an hx35 would be better unless you plan on upgrading soon. these turbos are pretty big and take a decent amount to spool |
You didn't look at my sig...
The 6x.016's provide plentyof fuel to spin the '40, and with the slip in the TC the engine revs nicely. And the 5" exhaust gets rid of the back pressure also. |
Ya an hx40 would be good :tu: but make sure if u buy of ebay pick the owners brain bout it ya dont want junk :td:
|
Anyone who is thinking about buying a turbo off ebay that isnt a real holset needs to watch this vid. Not knocking them but I dont wanna see anyone get hurt or hurt their truck. Watch the knock off go at 3:20..
|
oops.
|
Nice video man thts scary wat can happen :scare2:
|
Big thing I noticed about the knock offs is they're made for cars - who'd want an HX40 with a 3" exhaust ???
And I think the turbine is only 57 or 58 mm. |
ya thts not a tru hx40 for sure dont buy it
|
doh! i'll delete my duplicate post since apparently it took me a few more min to type. good job TRKenvy

i have a real hx40 hybrid and it was 350 bucks after i traded my core from my local diesel shop and i love it i am going to add some injecctors to loose a little lag but top end is nuts you should be able to buy a real holset hx40 for under 700 bucks before core
|
WOW :scare2: Thank you guys I had no Idea there were counterfeit turbos even out there.
I will go back to the junk yards and keep searching and learning. maybe a hx35 12cm2 with the 4 inch pipes for now. thanks for the help you all are very helpful. |
just watched that video.....glad a bought genuine cummins parts for my turbo!!!!
|
every turbo i own i bought off ebay. as long as it has a factory holset markings u know its original. and as far as spinning it, a little fuel from the pump screws and itll be awesome.
