2wd getrag VS 4wd getrag
well i just bought a complete running 91 for 1000 bucks with a flatbed and a BRAND NEW getrag 5 speed in it. its a 2wd though. can i make it 4wd by changing the output shaft on it like some trannys, or is it stuck as a 2wd?
i kinda think you can
do you know if the tailshaft on the 2wd comes off and you can swap out output shafts?
I dont think the tail shaft comes off of those
Yeah it can be done.

tail shaft and housing I believe. Never done it but I know people have.
You can swap the internals into a 4wd housing. but im pretty sure just the tail section does not come off, so all you would keep would be your bellhousing and internals from your 2wd tranny
the tail definitely comes off, i know cause i rebuilt mine. i also think the mainshaft is different as that is the one that is also the output shaft. the change would involve almost completely disassembling the trany but i dont see y it couldnt be done
oh ya thats way too much work. forget about that idea lol
at least you got a bunch of spare parts:lol:

do you possibly have a front output flange for a 205 that doesn't have all the splines ripped out like mine does?
it was worth the ask. haha
I have a spare case from a chevy, maybe i'll just swap the front output from it if I can't find one. |
thats what i was going to recomend. i have chevy flanges everywhere and id assume theyd bolt right on
they should... i put one off a dodge on my friends chev mud truck the other day, it bolted on fine.
the dodge flange is like 29 spline..
the chevy one I have uses a yoke and it's like 10 spline. |
oh that sucks bud.... my sapre t-case is off a old dodge gasser and it went on a 79 chev, maby the years make some sort of difference.
dodge flanges are only a 29 on the manual on an auto transmission transfer case its a 23 spline
i think ur talkin about the 205 input shaft there. both output shaft on all the 205s behind the cummins should be the same.

The Dodge NP205 transfer cases are mostly an 8 bolt pattern like the early Chevy. Some late units had the 6 bolt circular pattern. These units all have a right hand drop. Most are supplied with a 23 spline male input shaft and used with a coupler. 29 Spline Dodge: There is a fairly rare 29 spline NP205 used in Dodge trucks behind the Getrag 5 speed. The NP205 used behind automatics are all 23 spline, even in the 1 Ton Cummins apps. as far as inputs go.. but I see no output info for dodge |
don't know what to tell you budgreen:argh:

So maybe you know I'm new to this world building my first truck ever.... Taking a cummins dodge 1993 turbo diesel the whole engine out of a dodge flat bed. Not sure were to find the shut off and where all the other sensors are. It has a bad ass getrag 5 spd on the back of it. So any suggestions to what I need to do. Im putting this into a 1971 chevy custom body short bed swamp bug truck. Any advice?:s:
