solvent, oil?
I am going to change the oil in my getrag and i pulled the top off and it appears to be pretty dirty inside. Is there a way to flush it with a solvent or somenthing like that before putting fresh oil in or is that not a good idea. thanks

i cant imagine ti would hurt it opening up the lower drain plug and sprayin it all down with a good cleaner like a parts cleaner. and then it should re lube itself after puttin the new oil in.
i dont know if its bad or not but i see alot of people do it in the shop, and ive done it as well and never seen a problem myself |
I would worry about the solvent washing the visconsity of the oil.Unless theres a way to blow dry the internals.
|
or you could run some new oil through there and try to flush it out. Just an idea.

Use diesel, it actually makes a pretty good parts cleaner, but because its an lubricant, not a solvent, you wont have to worry about it hurting anything or breaking down the oil if theres a bit left in there when your finished
|
and if you dont drive very far or very fast fillng it with diesel and driving around the block can help with the removal of sludge
|
Diesel fuel is a solvent to oil.It will dissolve it.It is a lubricant, but the viscosity is very different

Thanks alot everyone. I'm goin to give it a try and see if it helps my shifting problem.
