governor problem???

i think my governor is bad but im not sure. my truck wont idle in gear or when it is cold. if i keep my foot on the trottle it will keep idleing fine. it runs perfect other than that. no grey smoke or any signs of lack of fuel

May have to turn up the idle screw.

cumminskid92 12-15-2009 07:25 PM

it already idles a little high

Bob Beauchaine 12-15-2009 08:55 PM

It should idle at about 750 rpms in gear with the A/C on - if its an auto. Mine with the NV4500HD idles at 850 but with a manual that is not really a problem.

i dont have a tach but i know it atleast idles around 850-900 in neutral. it wont idle in gear

Maybe someone else will chime in and answer this, but could it be the KSB?

Bob Beauchaine 12-16-2009 08:33 AM

The KSB advances timing until the engine temp reaches about 100 degrees. I wouldn't think that would cause the problem. Cumminskid92 what mods have you done to your pump?

Bob

AFC spring out, fuel pin ground, max fuel about 3-4 turns

My first thought is that you might have to re-index the the throttle shaft but that is only a guess. Does your idle screw touch the throttle linkage? If not and you see 800+ RPMs then you will need to re-index the pump to get the idle into the safe range. Also did your problems start right after the pump mods or later?

This is probably the problem

cumminskid92 12-16-2009 06:37 PM

i did the mods along time ago and the problem just started recently.

Bob Beauchaine 12-17-2009 06:42 AM

I would suggest that you might want to post this over in the DTR - Diesel Truck Resource. It's a free site and one of the most active 1st Gen forums I have ever been on. There should be someone over there that can shed some fresh light on your problem.

is it an auto or stick dose it idle in gear after it warms up?

cumminskid92 12-17-2009 05:46 PM

it use to but i wont anymore. i was not bad at first but it has been getting worse and worse. if i bump up the idle a little more it will idle but i dont really want it to idle any higher
