Front Drive Shaft
Hey i have a quick question. In 4x4 i get a vibration. If i really get into it the vibration goes away. I looked at my drive shaft and noticed that the joint at the T-case is shot. I don't know the name for it but it is the piece that connects the drive shaft u-joint and the input u-joint for the T-case. What is this called and will this solve my vibration problem. Also it doesnt turn in 4x4 as it should, feels like the drive shaft is binding.

From what you said it sounds like a slip yoke if it is wore out it would cause a vibraition for sure or the u-joint would do the same. But i highly doubt the yoke on the t case is damaged

The TCase joint is a double cardan joint. They usually last a long time. Are you sure the play is not with the input shaft on the Tcase?

Hey man you have lock out hubs right or is it a in and out t case
|
ya they are manual hubs
|
There is a ball and socket on the tcase side of the front shaft where the 2 ujoints are. If in the past someone ran it with a bad u joint i could have broken the socket part of the knuckle and that will give you a nasty vibration.

let me look in my little blue book and see what i can find
Only time the front of my truck has been touched was when i rebuilt the front end. rear yoke changed once and u-joints changed about 5 times in the rear shaft. |
my doubble joint has play in it, has since i owned it. i was just gonna get another drive shaft. i had one of those doubble joints let loose on my 150. bad things happon ahen tha drive shaft lets loose:ouch:

Yea but if it is manual lock out hubs then when there unlock it shouldnt be a drive shaft i would think more like something in the t-case
