GDS 60mm upgrade vs hx35

i have the stock h1c turbo on my truck and unfortunately i have the 21cm exhaust housing. so my question is wats the better deal for more get up and go plus i want some whistle :humm:

NadirPoint 11-27-2009 01:28 PM

HX35=56mm 60mm=60mm.

1st genny nut 11-27-2009 01:30 PM

so the h1c wit the upgrade is better than an hx35 and wat would be the best exhaust housing for either one

muskrat 11-27-2009 01:42 PM

If your h1c is in good shape(no excessive shaft play), the 60mm is a good, cheap(ish) upgrade. The 14 or 16cm exhaust hosing will let you spool up way quicker than your current big a$$ housing does. I went from 18cm to a 14cm housing and it's unbelievable the difference. As far as a singing turbo, The larger compressor wheel will increase the "whistle" but will greatly depend your exhaust, to let the sound come through.

thnks muskrat so ur sayin a smaller housing is better? wont tht raise my egts a little? and im gettin 4" exhaust put on soon

muskrat 11-27-2009 01:51 PM

No, It won't hurt anything. alot of stock tubros came with a 12cm housing. The 21cm you have now is rediculously big. Commonly known as a lag monster. You will notice a raise in EGTs, but a 4" exhaust will cancle that out.

1st genny nut 11-27-2009 01:54 PM

ok thanks for the info man my dad is gettin me the gds upgrade for christmas and he got me hooked on the 1st gennys so would u recommend the 16cm over the 14cm or vise versa

muskrat 11-27-2009 02:06 PM

What are you using the truck for? If you're towing probably the 16cm, daily driver/hot rod, 14cm. the 14 will spool up alittle faster, but will have a little higher EGTs. I love my 14cm, though and haven't had any issues w/ EGTs.

1st genny nut 11-27-2009 02:32 PM

its a lesiuer truck no hauling except a dirtbike occasionally so i should proly get the 14cm right? and the egts should be fine with the 4" exhaust

muskrat 11-27-2009 02:34 PM

Yeah, I think the 14cm is pretty well rounded. BTW have you gotten gauges yet?

1st genny nut 11-27-2009 02:43 PM

FRadisi 11-29-2009 07:21 PM

Where can I find the GDS upgrade? What is it, just a bigger turbine? How would I get a different exhaust housing?

muskrat 11-29-2009 07:32 PM

Here ya go, bud.

FRadisi 11-29-2009 08:44 PM

Thanks for the link, that explains this whole thing to me. Told y'all I was a noob :c:

i read up on the gds turbo upgrade and its a super difference over just the plain old h1c. Everyone says its all the turbo u need if ur under 450hp. Creates good boost and power and doesent spool down quick in between shifts. Im gettin one for christmas :jump:

RSWORDS 11-30-2009 04:34 PM

Running teh 5-speed I think I would go with a 12cm wastegated housing.

Everyone was wrong then. For a close to stock truck, the 60mm upgrade is alright. However, once you add bigger injectors, or turn the pump up on a Non I/C truck, it's pretty much useless. Richie O is making right around 300rwhp with his '89, with an S300G (much better than an H1C) and still has EGT problems.

If you want 450rwhp, a 62/71/14 S300 is the turbo you should be looking at, not an H1C.

muskrat 11-30-2009 05:19 PM

:D:D I'm gonna go ahead and reply to this one. He's 16 and doing mild mods for now.

What does age have to do with anything? I was replying to what I put in bold. No matter how old you are, or if you're only doing mild mods, a 60mm H1C will still not support 450rwhp. Spreading information doesn't do any good if you spread the wrong information. I was simply correcting him, and I know I'd want someone to do the same to me if I thought something that turned out to be wrong. I wasn't trying to be a jerk, if it came off that way, but I didn't want him spreading false information either.

muskrat 11-30-2009 10:58 PM

:ouch: Sorry, I wasn't implying that you were rude, I didn't notice the bold letters. I took it as you were just explaining to him that he needed a bigger turbo. I was missing the big picture. And good call, That turbo would have a heck of a time making that hp if it can be done at all, and if you put one on a 450 hp truck it would probably end up in a bunch of small pieces in a hury.:c:

1st genny nut 12-01-2009 02:49 PM

sorry guys for saying tht maybe it was 350 hp cause 450 hp is proly to much for tht thing to handle i was wrong but im still learnin

seandonato73 12-01-2009 09:29 PM

well the upgrade woks better on my truck then the stock turbo set up. and i'm prolly only pushen 250ish hp. but 1400* is better then wrapen around past 1600* on the pryo so its a good investment till tax return time.
