Hood Stack on a '92 truck to play around (opinions needed)
 

I've searched through the topics of hood stacks but they really didn't help. What my boyfriend, dad, and I did yesterday was add a stack with some pipe that was already on the truck. The turbo is a bit too far back for my taste on them '92s and I believe the stack is too far back because of that but I rather that than restriction. So, we cut the hood and welded the pipe on- talk about some black smoke!:jump: But, I want a bigger pipe since the one we put on yesterday is all we have right now that's not too heavy. The truck itself looks stupid but the pipe is making it worse. So, should I go with a 4", 5", or 6" pipe? I plan to paint it flat-black. By the way, this truck to to play around with until I have time to have the motor and transmission taken out for the conversion. I never been into hood stacks and usually prefer stacks in the bed but I have a flat bed on the truck and I don't want to tear into that. Thanks.

Go with a 6", as they say, go big or go home.

I Think i was talkin to ya in the chat room about this. go into the off topic area and look up "Hood Stack ?". I have 5in. on mine and it looks great except for the weld above the hood. check it out see if ya like it. Remember the bigger you go the more the smoke will just fluff out rather than flow out.:tu:

I think I'll go with a 5" so it's still a good cloud of smoke. Haha, when I was going down the road in front of the house, my dad says you can see black smoke rings coming out. Before we added the pipe, we had it about flush with the hood just to see how it was before welding the piece on and in the beginning, it was pretty cool until it started coming through the vents I guess. Hopefully, I can get some pipe tomorrow so I can have it done for Thanksgiving.

weld some flat stock to a downturn pipe. then weld the flange to the flat stock. The 90 deggree turn makes it sit perfect and straight.:tu: hope that helps.
