converting from ve to p7100
Hey all, my ve pump and lift pump finally died after 235,000 miles.:dang: I was thinking on replacing the ve pump with a p7100. How big of a deal is this? What all will I have to change besides the pump itself?

i believe it is a new timing case, lift pump, injection pump, lines and new injectors. im not 100% sure but i think thats the majority of it

super expensive even for a used one already looked into it
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- hey butherman check out my thread called "crazy fuel pump" see if tht helps ya ne |
yes it is expensive but well worth it

I checked it out and looks like it's out of budget for me. I'm probably crazy, but I am thinking about trying to rebuild the ve pump. I found quite a bit of service info, and have a dvd covering the rebuild process. Is there anyone in the Boise area that has done a job like this before?

What happened to your pump?
|
My truck was getting hard to start, had to crank it alot. Then finally it started, ran rough and died like it wasn't getting fuel. Haven't been able to start it since. I pulled the lift pump off and sure enough it was dead. I diesel mechanic told me that the injection pump will also need to be replaced because they overheat and burn up after the lift pump dies. I'm assuming he is telling me the right story. Is it possible the lift pump is the whole problem and the injection pump is fine?

Well... You will need a lift pump anyway so change it, might want to check some other things before you condem your injection pump. When did you replace the filter last? How did you check your lift pump, did you check the pressure? Could also have air getting in teh system, Are there any fuel leaks? If fuel is getting out air can get in. Maybe check your shut down solinoid, Had a buddy just go through that.
