Your best bet is to keep a eye on the classifieds and ebay. You can use just about any diesel tach and I have even seen some use a gas tach, don't ask me how.

i've been currious about using a gas tach... i think its abit of a waste tho... only being albe to use a third or so of the tach's sweep lol

Yeh I agree but you can get a gasser tach for ALLOT cheaper then a Diesel tach.

Tiny Tach......do a search for it on here.....

Non-intercooled trucks have no engine position sensor on them, so you have to buy a tach with a sensor included; either a TinyTach with a injection-line clamp, an alternator-based tach like Autometer's, or a tach that comes with a couple magnets to glue onto your harmonic balancer.

Intercooled trucks have a sensor in them stock that can be plugged into various tachometers.

The signal is only 5 volts from the pcm on factory equipped trucks. Most gasser tachs will not read that signal.

Exactly, I was gonna do the tiny tach but they did not have a backlit one at the time. I think they do now.

Yeah you can buy a box to make it work but by the time you do that you have spent more then just getting a diesel tach.

Here is my Isspro I got from a vendor on here. I was very happy. As Begle said if I had an intercooled truck it would have been plug and play. I have a non-intercooled through so I got my reading off teh harmonic balancer.
