LOOKING FOR AN IDEA

I'm getting ready to put a after cooler on , was wondering if anyone else all ready had one on their truck, looking for ideas for the hood, I have to cut the hood so that it will fit.

Air-to-water aftercooler?

cummins_guy 07-31-2009 02:58 PM

yes, I have the inter cooler and know i want to put a after cooler on as well, to just play around with and see what happens

Id plumb its own coolant system and pump.all though theres been discussion if there are any gains.using the engine coolant would defeat the air to air.A big ass air to air is my choice.

One day I'm going to build a truck with a REAL air-to-water aftercooler, like one off a QST or QSK, tucked in under the frame rail.

The first gen aftercoolers have been used before. The big power guys that were using them found that they hindered flow too much to be productive for big power; however, on a truck not making 400+ horsepower I imagine you would see advantageous EGT drops.

It works best to have the aftercooler on a separate system. Cummins' big stationary engines above do it that way; separate water pump, separate thermostat.

On my first gen, I'd really like to take the injection lines bent for use with an aftercooler and build a big fan-shaped plenum in their maw.

Didn't Gilbert and Seeker both see gains from loosing them?

RSWORDS 08-01-2009 09:51 AM

dunno... but brian was running one when he did his 627. I do know Bill has been looking for another one....
