governor spring

how hard and wut do i have to do to put a 5000 rpm governor spring in my 89

The hardest part is finding a 5000 RPM governor spring. You can find one out of a VW application, don't expect 5000 RPM though.

It's an easy job as long as you're careful.

Begle, are the 5000 springs not the wrong size for our pumps?

Mots of us are running the 3200 spring, some the 4200 spring. There are some modifications you need to do to teh 4200 spring to make it work. It is too long for out pumps. The install is pretty easy. there is a couple links on this site if you look around a little in this section.

I've heard that they're the wrong size, but that's just a matter of trimming a little bit off of them. Then there's the funny multi-piece springs.

To get 5000 RPM you're looking at a lot more modifications than just a spring.

oh yeah I know you are but I didn;t think teh 5000 spring would work at all. I thought you had to switch to the VW gov assembly.

If it's the right length it's gotta work, right?

I'm just waiting for somebody to try my baling wire idea...

RSWORDS 07-18-2009 09:37 PM

i guess so. :D

why bother with a governor spring at all......just a solid link.....

ive thought about trying to find someone that could make a 3600 and 4000 spring that would bolt into the trucks, it would be nice to have that extra 400 RPM's out of a 3600......matter of fact, if anyone knows someone that could produce one that was drop in like the 3200 spring i would pay to have some made.....

Why not just buy a 4200 RPM spring and trim the two coils off required to make it work?

My baling wire idea would be a solid link. Of baling wire.
