02 Ram 2500 engine swap with 1990 Cummins???
My father has a 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 with a 360 V8 and a 5 Speed NV 4500. I have a 1990 Dodge W250 with a 5.9 CTD. I was wondering if anyone knew how difficult it would be to put the diesel in the newer truck? Would it just involve ripping out all the computers, get a 94-98 bell housing, engine mounts, and fuel lines? or am i looking at a huge pricy job? Um, i wanst sure if i should have put this in the 98.5-02 Ram category or here. But i figured the old 12v guys know as good, or more likey better then anyone else.

Well the 90 VE engine can be made to run with only a handfull of wires. Depending on were you are at you might have issues with emmisions by putting a older engine in a newer truck. I'm also pretty sure the gasser 4500 is different then the diesel. Also while I have a special place in my heart for the VE cummins found in the 1st gens I would not waste my time putting one in a newer truck. A P-Pump ngine might be a better choice. Or you can sell the gasser and buy another diesel.
Would make for a fun project though! |
buy a p-pump 94-98.5 truck, you can get them fairly cheap if you look around right now, then sell your gasser......

The manual in a gas truck is an NV4500, while the one in a diesel is an NV4500HD. You would need more than just a bell housing to make that work.
