I need advice on a 91'

There is currently a 91' first gen 4X4 5 speed in my area for sale. It is in great shape. I went and drove it yesterday and its as smooth as smooth can be. It has a new clutch with 25,000 miles on it and new brake pads. and it has 163,200 miles. and bone stock. the guy wants 6100 out of it. is it worth that ?

RSWORDS 02-01-2009 11:43 AM

how good of shape? $6100 sounds a little high.

if its in good shape i would say its worth it. First gens are sellin like crazy right now and for pretty high prices to. i seen one the other day sell for 15000.

you hould go pick it up but say you got 5300 cash... take it or keep your truck:U:

Sorry it took me so long to reply guys but i offered the guy 5750 cash and he took it afte a day of thinking. its in great shape ! im goin to get it today and ill post pics :U:.
one more question, did the first gens have problems with the kdp or just the 2nd cause they guy said he had never heard of it.

89silverbullet 02-03-2009 12:15 PM

I saw a picture yesterday of a guy that had one come out on his first gen. It broke the timing case. I took my 93 apart and burred the case so the pin can not come out. I have yet to do my 89.

GeneralC 02-03-2009 11:34 PM

ok. so i guess that means i gotta fix that to. any idea on how hard it is ? by the way I LOVE THIS TRUCK !!!

thats some funny stuff. if i had a 09 cummins i can think of two things that i would do in the parking lot to void my warranty:c:

Just watchout for the wiring problens on those first gens they ar a pain in the neck

GeneralC 02-04-2009 11:01 PM

thanks for all the input guys. yeah i purty much love this truck. now i gotta buy some gauges and crank that fuel up :U:

Governor spring and fuel... Amazing what a weekend and a couple of wrenches can do for power. I find it more satisfying to tinker with springs and things instead of uploaders. I played with both my 89 and 93, lotsafun...:U:

Of course you are gonna have to poke around.. the pre-intercooler engines did have some specific problems with upping the power too much as EGT's get out of control in a hurry. The one point is the head has 9mm injector holes instead of 7mm with the 91.5 and up engines and can be more prone to cracking from the exhaust port to the injector. Anyway... its a fun project truck for sure...:c:

You and me both. Is it bad to never even drive your new truck without a programmer on it?
