loss of power, fueling issue?
 
Well I have the non intercooled truck with a 7.3 intercooler and a httb2 turbo added, fuel pin grounded and shaved, timing advanced 1/8 inch, fuel screw 1 full turn back out from run away, and a 3200 governer spring, nv4500 and np 205 out of second gen truck.

The problem I'm having is with a used injection pump I installed because my other one took a crap after hitting some bad gas, replaced the lift pump with an autozone lift pump and fuel filter, the injection pump came off a truck of the same year also non intercooled with less miles, the old pump put out 32psi of boost with stock injectors before I swapped the pump, the new pump only puts out 30 psi with new stage 3 dynamite diesel +150hp injectors and no hp increase, there is a 120 rpm raise when I slow to a stop it goes from 850 rpm to 970 rpm, yes 850 is my idle, there is a grey haze of smoke instead of soot black when I step on it, which makes me think it's a fueling problem with either having a stock lift pump or a problem with the injection pump, my bother has the same truck with same mods but puts our 45psi boost, I could really use some help here trying to figure out this problem

Also it will max on rpm's at 3200 under load and in neutral both produce gray cloud of smoke, not soot black like it should still a big cloud tho, and egt's never climb past 1000 under load in 5th gear on the floor. still a gray haze

Also when backing up at 10 ish mph and put in neutral and stop, rpm's go down about 100 as well

Turns out too tight of throttle linkage is the culprit behind the rpm issue, not for the fueling issue, maybe a pinched line...

Did you check the timing after you installed this used pump? Believe it or not VE pumps are not all the same. I installed a re-con in mine and when I checked the timing with a dial indicator (cheap on E-Bay) I found I had to advance the IP gear 2 teeth from stock "E" position to get it to stock plunger lift. Just a thought.

I'll probably have to reset the timing to get it right the only weird thing is that if I advance the pump too far it runs crappy, if I retard it it runs crappy, so I keep thinking I hot the pump in the right timing and it runs good to get some power, but with the new ddp injectors I put in there is absolutely no change in power or milage, but you could definitely be on to something, guess I'll run out and buy a Guage and check it

Mine ran Ok for a long time (couple years) before it started to get hard to start and began smoking. Timing was at .4 mm plunger lift @ TDC (data plate said 1.4mm @TDC). Reset it and runs like a new truck. Those hotter injectors (I'm guessing) will like a little more advance.

Ya they are bigger bore injectors "supposed" to see 100-150hp gain over stock

The only problem I'm having about buying the adapter tool is it says it's a vw Bosch adapter kit, I'm guessing the Guage port size is the same on the truck as it would be with the vw Bosch seeing as how it's the same manufacturer of the pump? Just don't want to buy the wrong tool... even though that's all that's being sold

Yup I thought the same thing not sure why they list it as for"VW" but VW used the Bosch IP. The holder will do all the Bosch rotary pumps. It has 2 adapters and the gauge extensions. You won't need the adapters it will thread directly in the timing hole then screw in the gauge holder with set screw. and use the long gauge extension.
