NV4500 swap is expensive, and honestly not really worth it unless you are running really high horse power numbers. Just get another getrag. Where are you located at? I know a guy who has one, actually he prob has a few of them.

My truck is at a trans shop and the guy can't find a getrag. I am considering doing the swap because i have heard they are way better then the getrag.

Get whatever you can find affordably. I got a whole NV4500 4x4 parts truck for $500 (less cummins) so keep on searching.

I looked at doing a NV4500 swap when my trans went out but the adapter stuff alone was gonna cost like $700. Is yours 4wd or 2wd? The NV4500 is probably a better trans (but it still has issues too, 5th gear nut) but unless you are pushing more than 400 horse or abuse it really badly then stick with getrag. But i understand if you can't find any. If you are anywhere near kentucky let me know because i know where a couple are at.

You dont need special adapters if you get the bellhousing, engine plate, and starter from a donor truck.

It won't just bolt in though. you will need an adapter bellhousing or the adapter plate and bell housing off a newer engine.
