Hot side housings
I'm not too familiar with the pre 94 trucks, but am getting there with my dad's '93 auto truck.
He's looking for a little more power and responsiveness, I heard the turbo hot side is a 21 sq cm housing, without a wastegate. I have an old turbo from my '94 (WH1C) with a wastegate, would that be a good upgrade? Other than advancing the timing a bit, truck is bone stock, haven't fiddled with the IP yet... I'll get to that |
Bump.. Anyone?

I'm not sure if you'd gain much since you have an auto and don't need to spool that fast. It would only make it take off in 1st gear and spool up quicker than it would with the 21cm housing.

Is the '94 a 16cm housing?
Would there be any benefit of the inverse swap for EGT's etc on my truck which is probably getting a lot of backpressure? Yes it would spool slower would be the downside, As it stands the wastegate hardly works at all, my boost elbow is very close to closed, I could probably tune the fuel plate to not need it, or just watch the gauge which I always do anyhow. |
The 94 would have a 12cm housing. Switching to the 21cm on your turbo could help with WOT runs but that's about it I believe. It'll take a lot longer to spool up.
Your egts could get hotter while getting up to speed too. It wouldn't take long to switch them and try it out though. You'll have to move your exhaust 1.5" forward to make up for the lack of wastegate. |
I may try it for shits and giggles. my HX35 is pretty new so the CHRA bolts shouldn't too stuck, and I think I got enough give in my exhaust it should move enough.
Thanks.. when/if I get to it I'll let you know how it works. |
