I dont want to dwell on the subject....(every one seems to be comenting on these subjects) but i do want to fill you in on the (tps) and lock up torque converter thing.
First the tps... throttle position sensor... is a variable voltage switch that tells the transmission when to shift into overdrive. It runs 1.5 volts at least at all times... once the throttle linkage gets into a certain position it manualy turns the swich untill it hits 5 volts wich ingages the overdrive solenoid. However, this stupid little thing goes out of adjistment or fails and you loose overdrive:(. The potentiometer is a great solution that allows you to set exactly when your truck is to hit overdrive by choosing when it hits 5 volts:) Now to the lock up torque converter. If you have the a518 that comes from the factory in all 1st gens it is a non lock up... unless one was added on by the previous owner. Because the 2nd gens with the 47re were the first with a lock up converter. |

Well.... if it's working and your transmission is all good... I would recommend driving it down the road and turning it all the way to the left to have a starting point... drive your truck down a fairly vacant road, hold its speed at about 40mph, then start turning the potentiometer till overdrive kicks in.... from now on your truck should shift there!!
