HX35 Turbo Or Compressor Upgrade

what would produce more power a rebuilt hx35 in my truck or get a compressor upgrade on the h1c like stage 3

94cummins12v 04-17-2008 10:03 PM

go with the HX35 with the HX40 hybrid upgarde

Diesel Dummy 04-18-2008 09:24 AM

Well first off a stage 3 on the H1c will make it a hybrid, that would be the best route a s there will be no machining involved, the gains will be the same as doing a hx35/40hybrid but its all bolt on and go with the H1c. You will see more gains with it than just putting on an HX-35. DD

Power Ram Man 04-19-2008 09:41 PM

its a tough decision

Diesel Dummy 04-19-2008 10:52 PM

Actually its not, you wont gain squat with just an hx35 just more spool up and higher egt's. With the stage 3 you will gain more air to burn more fuel, try to find a 16cm housing and you will have a nice allaround turbo to handle what ever pump mods you do. DD

can you just put a h1e compressor housing, wheel and backing plate on a h1c for a 60mm upgrade?

Power Ram Man 07-17-2008 07:57 PM

already have a 16cm housing

Yes you can. Have a BRAND new H1E wainting at the house for me to get th eballs to make the hybrid.

Just got an h1e compressor off what I believe to be an 8.3 (forgot to read engine code) with a rod through the block. Taking the compressor, wheel and backing plate was no problem at the junkyard. Save the t-bolt clamps your old ones might break. I paid 15.00 for half the turbo. Just remember the compressor nut is reverse thread..I feel bad I broke the one at the junkyard.

Anyway, swapped the h1e on my h1c stock exhaust housing and it pulls great up top now. Smoke cleared up fully at full throttle. Needs more fuel.

More fuel........ thats the easy part!!!!!!!!!!!

C/PRD/ 09-08-2008 10:30 AM

That's a 58mm hybrid :rocking:

Thats the best part, the smoke! Is grinding the afc lever worth while, and how much to grind? Im picking up my 3200 governor spring tommorow at a local supplier.

What is a HX35/HX40 Hybrid and how is it done, and what does it do for you?

welderboy250 09-08-2008 09:18 PM

the hybrid is made using a 35 exhaust wheel and 40 compressor and of course the housings that go with them. if u got a 35 u just need the compressor wheel and compressor housing. it pushes a lot more air than the 35 and it bolts right on so its awesome

Oddfire 12-24-2008 09:51 PM

So once more, what is the recommended mod/fuel level of an engine to be able to take advantage of a 35/40 hybrid? :humm:

digging up an old thread but i can get a complete hx35 with a 60mm housing and a 8 blade wheel for less than what it cost to buy a 60mm upgrade for my H1C. the turbo is off of a 1999 24valve and has a 60mm wheel from gillett diesel??

is it worth it being the truck only has 140,xxx and was only used as a daily? not sure wich to go with right now
