Turbo upgrade
1992 inter cooled gen 1 cummins fuel plate slid ahead. Producing 19 lbs boost.
I plan on turning fuel pin to steepest ramp mad rotating dial I On fuel pump. I also want to upgrade turbo so I have a waste gate to help keep exhaust temps down. What turbo would be best to go to 4" exhaust, hx 35 or hx 40? |
im confused!! 1st gen?? fuel plate?:c:
|
HX35s are $100-200 used.... and mine has been a significant improvement. Dunno where you'd get a cheap HX40.

A first gen doesn't have a fuel plate like a 2nd gen. maybe the pump was turned up??

Do you have 4" exhaust? Or still stock exhaust? |
Might of turned in the fuel screw to the collar. Could be enough of a differnce to make 19psi.
Isnt stock like 12? |
Yeah we were only getting 11-12 lbs boost prior to him taking it to mech. I get 19 now but doing any hauling or just getting on it egt's fly right up to 11-1200. I've been told turbo upgrade and 4" exhaust will be a big help. Just trying to figure out which turbo would work best and for right price. The more and more research I do. Thinking about changing out fuel pin installing 100 hp injectors and doing turbo. Any recommendations? Would I have to add a boost pump to go to that size injectors?

Seems kinda hot for a IC truck. Should give it some timing if that hasnt been already been done.
Id stay away from most aftermarket fuel pins. They have to much travel and will stick and make the oring leak. Depending on how much power you want, a he351 would do pretty good. Its a little more $ then a hx35. Most hx 40's arent that much a upgrade over a 35. A super 40 would be better. |
Now when you say fuel screw what one exactly are you referring to. The one on the back side of the injection pump or the screw that is on the afc housing that allows fuel pin travel?
