Anyone have a pic of homemade motor mounts they made to drop a Cummins in their 94-00 diesel chevy? Pics help**if I see something I can make it! I understand motor should be in and aligned for clearances first and every truck is diff but I just want a good idea of what i need and need to work with thanks! I have both trucks and mounts if it matters...*Matt

I've seen 1st-gen mounts successfully used in a Chevy 2wd by adding a piece of 3/8" plate under the rubber frame mount. Sorry, no pic though.

Please post pics of your progress. I have a newly aquired lowered 94 chevy ext-cab dually with supercharged 454 that i would LOVE to drop a 12 valve cummins into. :pca1:

Ok 3/8 plate is fine but do you know or can you tell me what how or where that 3/8 plate is installed? Is it like just sandwiched/bolted between the two 1st gen block mounts and chevy frame mounts? Or can you explain it beter? Thanks and yes I will have pics up! Even of my mounts since no one has any no offense lol

No chevy mounts. Use the complete 89-93 dodge/cummins mounts. Where the mounts land on the chevy frame, shim it with 3/8" plate. Should give you the oil pan and steering clearance you need.

I just did a 88 chevy new body style 3500 and used every part from the dodge 93 2500 for the swap. used the motor mounts juat as they were, pretty easy swap. Now i am doing a 95 chevy 3500 4x4 that was started by someone without any brains and got in above their head, he used autoworld mounts and after correcting the install it fits great. pics as soon as i can get some up.

pulled the old 6.5 crap last night and honestly i already sold it lol picked up some 1/4 metal plate for the mounts... might double them up and grind em down to 3/8" for the mounts or add 1/8" plate to the 1/4" plates to make 3/8" plates not sure yet and wont know til i see exactly what im looking at when new cummins swap is all lined up... going to start pulling the cummins apart and getting ready to be pulled tomorrow/monday so i can have it in and done next week.. more pics to come! :-)

how did you do alternator and a/c?? did you wire up the grid? and speedo???

dezeldoc 10-21-2013 08:39 AM

on the 88 used the stock dodge alt and a/c, on the 94 i am looking for the freightliner factory high mount a/c brackets or may go with the autoworld mounts as it is already engineered. need to use the 6.5 alt as it has the tach feed signal built in. don't need the heater out here.speedo have not figured that out yet, just using my gps for now.

Matt Riley 10-25-2013 03:48 AM

hey if i use the whole dodge motor mounts... do i need to cut the sheet metal that the chevy frame mounts were bolted to off? if i cut them off or grind them offf it looks like ill have clearance to bolt the motor in... other wise the studs wont clear them from the factory dodge mounts... do i have to drill a hole after words for the dodge studs to go through as well? thanks

dezeldoc 10-26-2013 03:25 AM

Yes and Yes

decided to get my ass back to work and pull this dodge apart, clean up block and head as best as possible since it had a 1/4" of dirt oil grease and grime on it, prime and paint it... gonna do bigger injectors, a bigger new shiny turbo and some billet valve covers later... kinda half assed painting it but its my work truck so yeah lol also made motor mounts using all of the dodge mounts minus the brackets that bolted to the block.. used some 1/4" sheet, drilled the holes out and welded to those after i took the brackets that bolt to the isolators and cut off the 8 holes so the motor would drop lower then welded them to the 1/4" sheet i made that bolts to the block.. dropped it in and the cummins sits anout 2 inches lower than originally... ill get some more pics 2mrw.. just need to do down pipe, radiator, core support and all the wiring/plumbing.. gonna prolly do the kdp pin fix while im there as well... oh and srry about the shitty spatter on the mounts.. it was so windy outside welding them they turned out like shit lol no one will see them so i dont care lol i would of welded them in the garage but i havent finished my addition yet so the 220 isnt working in there yet, only working off the house at the moment hence why i was welding outside lol
