I want smoke when I really get on the pedal
I have a 1991 first gen cummins automatic. It has an upgraded fuel pin other than that it is stock. I want to turn my star wheel to get more power but I really want to be able to smoke a little when taking off from a stoplight. I dont want to blow smoke all over everywhere, I just want to get a nice cloud when I really get my foot into the pedal.

Just a friendly warning, you may open a can of worms asking how to make your truck smoke just to smoke.

star wheel doesnt increase power. but the more you bottom it and the smoke screw out the more your going to smoke. Go get your self a ticket now.

Like I said I'm not trying to just go blow smoke everywhere, I only drive it weekends I would never just ride around blowing smoke in my daily driver.

Build your truck for power son and the smoke with come as a by product of having 600 horses and 1000 foot pounds of torque brother.h Sent from my DROID RAZR |
I plan to do that in the next few months, just have had time lately.

All my 92 did was smoke haha.

Max your pump out, bigger injectors, bump your timing, and upgrade your turbo. It won't smoke a lot if you don't too big on injectors but you'll get some

Smoke is a waste of fuel ask me how I know

THe first step, and it is free, is to turn up the power screw. It is on the back of the injector pump, it sticks out horizontally towards the firewall. They come from the factory with a sheet metal cover over them that you have to bust off. there is a jam nut on it. Mark the side of the screw with paint so you can keep track of where it is. Loosen the jam nut, I think you can do it with a 13 mm box end wrench. Turn the screw in 2 full turns. Tighten the jam nut, making sure that the screw dosen't turn in any more.
Take the air filter to turbo hose off before you start it, and have a flat peice of plywood ready to cover the turbo intake if the motor runs away, it can rev out of control if you turned the screw too far and the key won't stop it. Have someone start the truck and rev it up, floor the pedal a few times to make sure it dosen't run away. If it does, cover the turbo inlet to kill it and then back the scew out some. It will make lots more power and smoke. You will probably need to turn down the low idles, that is a screw parallel to the power screw, closer to the block. Good luck, have fun! |
