Non intercooled 1st gen hx35 hybrid
I have a 1990 d350 with 50 horse pods, ice box cold air full system, 4 inch turbo back, tuned pump. I have ordered an hx35 hybrid to put on, what do you all think about the outcome? im here to learn all i can and know quite a fair amount on these motors. Just here for any input you all may have because i am always open to learn something new. Let me know what you all think and what difference i can expect being non inercooled running factory h1c. thanks for anything you may share

A loss of turbo lag and a slight increase in EGT. The big difference between the 2 turbos is on the exhaust side. The turbo will spool faster, but the trade off is a higher EGT. The help comes in the form of a slightly larger compressor pushing more air through. If you keep the fuel turned down, it will be quite manageable.

Thank you very much, on power side what would a logical increase be?

Hard to really say because there are so many other variables. You will feel a performance increase. Oddly, you may or may not see a boost increase. You may even see a decrease in boost. Not to worry because it is being made up for by air volume. That was the situation with my 91 when I went to a bigger turbo. But remember to re-tune the injection pump to the components you change. If you don't you could wind up with a worse running engine or just no improvement.

So would it be worth while upgrade? Definitely wake the truck up?
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- Just wondering because you have the larger h1c(54) I believe being a 91.5 intercooled and I have the smallest h1c being the 50. So this being said would it be worth it to make the switch? |
May kill your mpg if you care about that? will be faster off the line! I don't know the difference in exhaust sizes between the two...I don't think egts will change much cause you have the small h1c right? so the new one will push more air?

I have the smallest h1c(the 50). So hopefully I'm looking at much greater performance and air volume.

Thank y'all so much for any input you shared. Any other mods I should do? I'm looking for 400 at the wheels. Lets me know what you recommend
