73 International Travelette-Cummins-First diesel build
2 Attachment(s)
Well as posted this is my first diesel project. And first post at Diesel bombers at that. a little back ground of what i have here, i bought a 73 international travelette from a friend for $700 with the intentions of swapping in a first gen Cummins. As months went by i came across a 90 dodge 3/4 ton 4x4 auto with 150k for $2500. I really wanted to start with a stick but i couldn't find anything within my range, so the rest is history. I planned on doing a motor swap, but after much thought i just swapped the cab. Thus resulted in no room for an intercooler because of axle placement in the wheel well. mind you i did the swap in less than a month as iwas laid off and would have access to a welder our any other tools needed to put the motor farther back on the frame. So I'm pretty much stuck with what i have, but plan on a custom intercooler inside the front bumper as time and money permits. When i first bought the dodge the truck got amazing millage of 24mpg, and was gutless, after the swap it was sitting on 37"hummer take offs, road like crap, wandered all over the road and got about 18mpg. Oh and still was gutless. Then i put on a 4" diamond eye exhaust and it help a little in the power but nothing to rave about, then the big hit came when i bought new 37" Toyo M/T's on i lost a lot of power and fuel suffered to a low of 14 mpgs, but the ride was day and night different! Now what? Well I'm going to turn up the fuel as I've read everywhere, order the M&H M4 fuel pin, 3200 gov spring, and possibly the dynamic advanced timing spacer, but I'm not sure if its worth the money? I just haven't read enough positive reviews, but i guess thats just another reason I'm here, to get some input. also i think the injection pump had been recently rebuilt as all the nuts are coated in red stuff. Well that's where I'm at now, future plans are an nv4500, different tires, maybe a different turbo housing and air & fuel filter, and lots of body and paint!
