Replacing Fuel Shutoff Solenoid

Previous owner wired a choke cable to the manual fuel shutoff valve because a good portion of the time it runs even when you turn the key off. I have a fuel shutoff solenoid. Looks simple to replace. Remove wire, unscrew solenoid, install new one, put wire on... anything else I should know? Do I need to take fuel pressure out first?

There's no pressure when it's not running. I've been using a pull cable for years and much prefer it over the problematic shutoff solenoid.

I went out there and replaced it. No difference. I cannot detect any electric current in the wire going to it with the key in either the on or off position.... something else is bad? I followed a wire going to it and it went up to a connector on top of by the valve cover. The other wire led to what looked like another fuel shutoff switch, and that switch sat up and down, above the one I replaced which sat sideways. It also had another wire in it, which was live, going to other wires within the harness... what else could it be? Good thing is the choke cable operates smoother now but still.

Looks like I replaced the wrong thing. I replaced the bottom cylinder thing with the wire leading to it instead of the top cylinder.

Looks like I may be able to get some channel locks on the top one without taking that assembly apart maybe? What is the bottom thing anyways?

Pull cable is better

Bottom would be the cold timing advance, commonly referred to as the KSB.
