how to identify wht year my engine is.
 
I just bought a 1st gen I found out it was orignly a gasser it has a lot of work done to it the p pump the front cover the head I can tell is all new but there's no inter cooler on it I'm wondering what year the engine is if its sec gen engine or first gen they converted to p pump how can I tell?

There should be some numbers cast into the block. Doing a google search for the numbers found there should lead you in the right direction

Casting numbers will not be able to help you, they use the same casting numbers as in 1993, unless you have a tag on the engine to tell you when the build was, you may never know, you could have one as old as a 91 or as new as a 2013 12 valve engine, when I build a new engine, on the right side (passenger side) I put a serial number on it, letting me know what build I did, what horsepower, and what year I did the build, sorry to say, not a lot of company's that sell long block do this.

97 and newer have 2 oil drains in the block.
