'92 Cummins in NPR.
Good day folks.......
I'm hoping to find some information on a possible project . Any and all comments appreciated.
1992 5.9 into a 2001 NPR box Truck.
I have a very rusty 1992 Dodge Cummins pick-up but it has a 5 speed.
Questions is : What automatic..I''m thinking RH type...will bolt up to this Cummins with O/D and would it need to be Lock Up type or do the RH series with no lock up work okay?
Box truck weighs around 6500 lbs with a 5.65 ish rear axle.
Why ? All the 4 cylinder Isuzu engines in these NPR trucks seem to break the crank across the #3 journal. If not that, then they seize #3 rod journal as oil goes to turbo from there. I already have one Isuzu engine with broken crank and this one make similar noise. ( New Crank $1400.00... major tear down to install )
Isuzu diesel fuel consumption is 11 to 12 mpg and engine power 175hp.
I have a couple of people who said they would buy my NPR if it had a Cummins. I was thinking of using the 5 speed but as the NPR is automatic that would add complications.
What am I getting into ? I have a full blown shop here so fabrication is possible. Already put a 318 into a 2000 NPR box truck with a 727 but had to limit engine speed with a MSD to 4400rpm as everyone jumps in it. It's now run more miles than the original Isuzu diesel did and with a 5.56 'ish rear end, the thing scoots away like you wouldn't believe.....top speed is around 55 or so and this is why I need an O/D transmission for this one.
Have enough information for any feed back ? One last question...Does the Cummins engine need any adapter plate or does the RH bolt up.
thanks in advance
