HX35 TURBO????

i know, its a common question on the 1st gens......... does the hx35 bolt on.... does it spool better......so on.

does it? and is it a better alternative to the 60mm housing from BBDP? i am not looking for huge boost numbers and the truck will make around 350HP when im done......... i just want a turbo that sounds good and i can feel when i go to pass someone.

thank you so much for any help.

An HX35 is a better compromise to the H1C, in that it has a tighter housing and, if you luck into an 8 bladed compressor wheel, it is a slight bit bigger than the OEM H1C that was on your truck.

A 60mm upgrade on an HX35 would be a very decent turbo for close to stock, even some decent tuning, IMO.

yes it will spool better and pretty sure to make it work its just a little customization to make it bolt on. if your planning on doing it make sure you get a $15 boost elbow.

SHAMBO 02-24-2013 02:11 PM

Yup its better

I have read where the swap makes your mileage go down do to the different hosing sizes from the H1C to the HX35.

dodgeramit10 02-25-2013 08:52 AM

ok,so i should go with the hx35 and not the 60mm compressor upgrade?

and what about the elbow?

BTW does anyone know of a legitimate place to get a HX35 for fairly cheap around $300?

mossyoak66 02-25-2013 09:15 AM

Search Craigslist. I see them on there for 250 and up all the time around here. Just look it over really good before you buy one, make sure you're not just buying someone elses problem. I personally decided against getting an hx35 just because I've read that a lot of guys have egt problems with them and mpgs go way down. But to each his own :c:

what if i did a twin turbo setup with my stock turbo and an HX35?............. is that stupid or would it work?

Mark Nixon 02-28-2013 12:17 PM

If it worked, it'd be very marginal.
An HE351CW and an BHT4B turbo might be a decent set-up.

The big thing with the 4bt guys right now is an HX30/HX35 combo.

Just my .02 but i bought an HX35W from an outfit on ebay by the name of CX racing. It was brand new and have had it on now for 2 years and have put roughly 5000 miles on it. I am pleased with the power increase and have not had a noticeable amount of mileage loss. It was 300 on the nose and I also did the 15 dollar elbow. It was an easy install and have enjoyed the truck alot. I am not an expert by any means but this is the road i went down and I have done good so far. Best of luck!!

dodgeramit10 03-01-2013 10:00 AM

what about an he351?........... does anyone have pictures of one on a 1st gen?.......... what are the pros and cons if anyone has done this?

please help......... i am going to do a turbo upgrade and i just dont know what will be the best option.

i will daily drive this truck and i need low EGTs but i want power i can feel and i want to hear it.

Cow tipper 03-02-2013 12:04 AM

the hx35 does bolt right on. just did the swap myself

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

the oil feed line just needs a smaller adapter fitting to fit into it

CUMMINStagetcha19 03-02-2013 03:01 PM

What's the 15 dollar elbow??? Compressor upgrade on stock turbo, hx35, or upgraded hx35? What's the best bang for your buck?

NKY 1stGener 03-03-2013 02:46 PM

Everything should bolt right up. I had a stock original H1C on my 92 and switched it for a Hx35. Oil line bolted right up, the only problem i had was getting my original stud bolts off my H1C to work with the HX35. Youll notice the top 2 wont fit, so i just used regular and a little bit shorter bolts. Thats how they came originally i believe on 2nd gens and its held right up! As for my exhaust housing side, my buddy took the lip off my original downpipe and welded it to make it work. No problems at all with it and im pushing 38 pounds of boost but of course with other work done but with plain ole HX 35. :tu: . I wouldnt even bother upgrading the H1C or HX35. Youll be satisfied with a plain 35 (depending on what your looking to get out of your truck).
