Both transmissions should be a618 also called 47rh. Not sure of any specifics on swapping the tailgousing.

ok thanks for the reply, i started doing ome research and i as thinking that mine was a

My understanding is the A518 was the gas version, although when I had mine rebuilt the shop told me there wasn't much difference between the two. They said the heavier one just had a few more clutches in the packs.

Does your 2wd have a yolk on the back for a u joint or does it have a slip yolk? I would think the tail housing is easily swapped, but you might have to swap the output shaft as well. I assume the 4wd trans went up and this is the cheap solution since you have a spare 2wd.

The 47rh didnt start until '94. The 92-93 trucks had the a518(46rh)

47rh has TC lockup, 46rh does not

You Have an A518 not a 618 the trans case is different on the diesel where the sprag attaches and the governor ect...any way.
Yes it will work you need to use the od and tail housing out put shaft ect i went from a 4x4 to a 4x2 by swaping them
