ok i am recently new cummins owner as of 4 days ago. i am going to be doing a cummins swap in my chevy. the dodge i bought has 132k on it and i am trying to drive it and put some miles on it before i pull it. the truck didnt get driven much by the prior owner. i changed the oil and have been driving it. runs VERY strong i just as curious if i should be alarmed by the gauge reading this low. theres no numbers on the gauge so i am not sure as to what psi it is ACTUALLY at so if anyone could help me out it would be appreciated. i dont want to swap this in and have the motor grenade due to low oil pressure and waste all my money i paid for it.

also another question is did these first gens all come with the same gear ratio in the rear end?? i am swapping this 12valve into my chev dually with smaller tires and she already is screaming high in the rpms at 60mph so curious as to what came in these

put a real gauge on it before you pull the engine. that gauge is just a reference and its old. who knows if its accurate.

makes sense wheres the best place on these motors to use to put the sending unit? whats acceptable psi range?

turbo2332 09-13-2012 01:14 PM

min 10 at idle
min 30 working
max 70 working

No, they did not all come with the same rearend or the same gear ratio.

Some had 4.10 ratio, some had 3.73, etc.

You fail to mention if that guage reading is at idle, or riding down the road. :humm:

Regardless, that image shows a pressure reading within the normal range. If you're concerned about its accuracy, replace the sender mounted on the driver's side of the engine block, right above the driver's engine mount.

That reading is at idle

I agree it's probably just the guage or sender, that milage it's just gettin broke in. :c:

^Ditto^ & that's an awesome low mileage 12 valve! Is the dodge body that bad to be installing it in a Chevy!!!! A restored 1st gen is BAD!

So I am going to by an external oil pressure gauge and put it on before I pull the Motor so I can make sure there will be no problems. Where can I put the fiting on th
e block for the gauge?
