Odometer won't work

My odometer has been working on and off and now it has just completely stopped working. Anybody know what the problem could be?

Real common thing for that to happen, sometimes, most of the time it was the electronic speed sensor sending unit, sometimes it could be cleaned and they would start working again, sometimes if the truck hasn't run in a while it will start working again on its own.

I take that back, that for the speedometer to work or not, it was real common however for the odometer to just crap out and quit working, speedometer on the other hand is real annoying for it not to work at least for me it is, I just got used to the fact odometers capped out and never bothered with them, figured it really was not worth the trouble it would be to fix or the money.

That would be a sensor on your transmission?

I'm not 100% positive but I will look at the shop manual this afternoon and get back to you on it.

Yes the sensor is on the driver's side of the tranny on the automatic, not sure on the 5 speed. The speedometer part drove the odometer part with a gear, I believe and the gear goes out and is not worth repairing IMO.:humm:
