93 not charging, no speedo, more?

I just got my first Diesel in a trade that needs a little work, engine runs great but I'm having some problems with the charging system. It's a 2wd auto that's currently in the process of being swapped to a 4wd... From what I've read in this particular year when the alternator is good, the charging is controlled via the PCM located in fender behind the battery. The problem is it's not charging and I'm unsure if it's the alternator or possibly the crank sensor (Not sure of it's location) or the PCM?

I'm learning everything I can about these trucks, but I'm a little confused about this issue. When I turn the key to start the truck, I do not see a wait to start light - from what I understand this deals with the 'grid heater' and will only come on when certain temperature parameters are met? The speedometer is also not working, and I don't see a check engine light anywhere? Where exactly is this located, and can anyone give me any insight on where to go from here? All the gauges seem to work besides the speedometer and there is no tachometer.

I have read that it's possible to put a regulator on the firewall but If this problem is possibly all connected I'd like to remedy it the correct way and get my speedometer and check engine light back also.

If it is the PCM, how do I test it?

Thanks for any insight :rocking:

I would trace the signal wire from the Alt. back to the PCM making sure it is all in good working order. It could be an internal problem inside the PCM. However, I would start with the simplest and cheapest solutions. If the signal wire looks good then I would go to CPS, then if you are still having problems try to find another PCM.

The WTS light won't come on until a certain IAT reading is reached. Unless you live in Antarctica or the north slope, you won't see it during the summer time.

Prolly the PCM.
