and more brake problems...
 

was driving to work today and noticed my brake pedal got stiff and the truck stopped much better than it did.. ever. the brakes were always sloppy due to the rear drums not being properly adjusted and just over worn. i know im not making a smart choice by driving with almost no rear brakes but my pockets are to shallow right now to do them over. but anyways it felt like something unclogged in the master and they were they way they should be. so i drove the rest of the day and then i came home for about an hour and then left with the truck and the pedal got worst and worst... driving til i had to put the pedal on the floor to stop and looked at each wheel... right rear wheel cylinder blew out and fluid everywhere. driver side front is also leaking from the caliper. what causes a wheel cylinder to blow-out besides age and wear and tear? is there something seriously wrong with my brakes that i dont know of? whats involved in doing an entire brake over haul and what do you think it would cost? sorry for long post just aggrivated and looking for best advice to make sure its dont right and wont have to do it again until its due again.

I cant tell you put a caliper is about 40 bucks, rotors another 50 almost the same for the drums a master for my truck cost 180 bucks,. so its quite a bit, but souds like you caliper may have craked or the piston pushed out to far.

I actually just did a complete front brake job on my 92. For loaded calipers(which comes compressed and with pads) plus rotors was about $237. It all depends on what front end you have in your truck though.

and im guessing for the rear, drums will be about $50 a piece, maybe less.

i have the dana 60 kingpin and i just did the rears last night took about 3 hours including using a screw driver and a hammer to take 2/9-16ths lock nut off of the axle to remove the drums but i had a ceased wheel cylinder on driver side and blown wheel cylinder on the passenger and all of the brake shoes were on metal with no pad left except on wich the material they use on the shoes was chipping off. i have a friend who works at a local firestone so i had him call in for the parts and the total amount at public price was $182.20 but at firestone cost i got everything for $64.67 with a quart of brake fluid! included all hardware new springs and everything i needed!

I priced all this stuff Rotors, Calipers, misc parts, pads, drums, shoes, etc. for around $500 to do it myself and thats the best parts I could buy at O'reileys, but thats not including the brake booster. And a new resevor is like $25 I think too. And not sure on brake lines though I dont think those would be much more probly $100 including fittings if you just bought brake lines and bent them yourself and rented the tools from O'reileys.

So if you did them one weekend yourself your lookin probly at around $750 - $800 for all new everything.
