Transmission slipping

I have a 1990 cummins with a 3 speed auto in it. When I accelerate the truck shifts into 2nd well but going into 3rd it seems like it hits neutral and then into 3rd. Could someone tell me what my problem is? And iif I do need to rebuild it then what kit should I use?
