Need help with tires?!
Hey guys!
I have a 1995 Dodge Ram 3500 4WD dually with the 5.9 12 valve. It is time for some new tires and I really want to go bigger than what I have. (235/85/16R) What is the biggest tire I can fit under there with all stock suspension? I don't really mind the occasional front tire rubbing while turning sharp. If I go big enough I know I will want to get a spacer in between the rear wheels so they don't rub together but that wont be a problem because I have that available. I wouldn't mind putting a 2" leveling kit on the front to give it a better stance and I can fit some more tire under the front. I don't really tow but the occasional little dirt bike trailer and maybe a 10,000 pound race car trailer MAYBE once a year. Any thoughts on tire size/brand would be greatly appreciated! (pictures of your rigs are always nice too!) |
I have a 98 2wd and I am putting a 2inch leveling kit on the front and it would be nice to know what size I can fit after its installed?
|
33's (285's) will fit and wont rub. If you go with 35's you might want the leveling kit.
|
No way? Those are huge! Lol. I can make a jump from 235's to 285's??
|
285's look good on a dually, I wouldn't go any bigger on narrow dually rims :c:
|
Excellent. Thanks! What's a good width with 285's? 75?

285 is the width 285 mm sidewall to sidewall, 75 would be the aspect ratio meaning from the ground to the rim would be 75% of 285 mm, And yes 285/75R16 is what you want.:c:
|
Ohhh. Excellent. Thanks a bunch :) any suggestions of what's a good tire for a good price? Something under $200 would be excellent. I really like the look of the mean aggressive tire but in reality I'm not going mudding or anything... So I don't really want the big mud grapplers but I also don't want a boring tire.

You're not gonna get much in a 285 for under 200 these days, priced a Bridgestone Deuller Revo 10 ply the other day and they were on sale for 254 :c:
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- Sounds like what you're lookin for is an all terrain :c: |
Yeah all terrain sounds good =] lol
So I've been lookin around. I really like the General Grabber AT 2 and I found it for about $180, the General Grabber for around $230, the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO for $203 and I REALLY like the tires on my dad's 07.5 Duramax(Nitto Terra Grapplers) and I could find those for around $230 also. Any comments on Nitto, General Tire, or the BFGoodrich tires? I like most of the BFGoodrich tires but they can get pretty pricey! Thanks again =]:tu: |
I got a 2 inch leveling kit with 35's and I never have a problem

I'm not sure what ply they were. They might of been $230 lol. I think I'm leaning towards the General AT or the nittos.

Baddodges might chime in here and tell you the same thing but check out tread wright recaps. They are decent tires and are pretty cheap. The only thing is alot of the 285's for a 16" rim are on back order right now. between the tires you mentioned, the majority of people seem to be running BFG's but I have heard of some guys doing good with general grabbers. Good Luck:tu:
|
Nitto's seem popular but I've never had any, just beware if you go with recaps you're gambling with you're dually fenders :c:
|
Yeah I have had bad experiences with retreads. Will never buy one lol.
Would a spacer for the rear be needed for 285/75/17's? Thanks for the replies :)) --- 1995 Dodge Ram 3500 Dually 4WD | 4" straight pipe to 9" Stack | Cold air intake | 18* Timing | Tuned AFC w/ stock Fuel Plate |
That I can't answer, the only dually's I've drove were company trucks with stock size tires but I'd bet that you would. :c:
|
did you ever get bigger tires for your dually? i have always ran 235, but would like to go bigger. just worried about them rubbing in the rear

265/75/16 I believe will fit with a 1"spacer ....... then u get extreme ...... start putting large spacers will cause breakage@ studs ..... and can also under real heavy loads break welds on wheels ........ in my exp .... keep it under or real close to 1" max ...... my $.02
