NV5600 Rebuild DIY?
Is it possible to DIY rebuild with a NV5600? I know you have to get the bearing pressed out and in, but besides that fact, would I be able to rebuild one with tools I have in the garage?

I always like to do my own repairs... But typically when it comes to transmissions rebuilds I leave it to a shop. I know a manual will be a heck of a lot easier to rebuild than an auto, so if you're confident and have plenty of tools i'd give it a shot!

I really would like to, Id learn a lot plus save money. Ive been reading that its not a one man job, that you need several hands pulling and setting the parts as things are not locked into place until they are in the case? That along with all the things that need to be pressed, I would really like advice from someone who has rebuilt them.
Just for sake cause, I stopped by the Dodge Dealership today, and asked how much it would cost just for labor to rebuild the transmission, Since it is already pulled and I'd have all the parts already bought through someone else, they quoted me $1,300 for just labor! Said it was an 8 hour job, meaning would be getting paid about $162.50 and hour! Is is just me or does Dodge sound like their full of themselves. That sounds completely unreasonable to me.. |

I'd tell the guy rebuilding it to pound sand. 1300 bucks for 8 hours work? I don't know ANY tradesman that charges 160/hour for trans work. And in this economy? Get bent. There's a lot of tranny techs that will do it on the side for 30 to 40/hour cash.
There's no way you can do it yourself unless you have the NV tranny tools to do it. They're not cheap. You can make all the tools yourself if you have a welder and grinder. |
Welder and grinder, I do have that.

You'll have to make a couple long threaded pullers.
