Im thinking of turning my smoke screw up but have no pyrometer will my 98 2500 run too hot if i do or will it be ok. I want i pyrometer but have just got laid off and cant afford one:nope:

no you have no where near enough fuel in stock form to overheat anything
fill out your sig

If the smoke screw is all you're doing, then no it wont get hot, it doesn't increase upper RPM/boost fueling. Go minimal on the smoke screw and crank up the starwheel while you're at it, it'll help reduce some of the lag from being in stock form, while keeping max power the same.

And even with the star wheel cranked i wont be runnin to hot? Whar about the fuel plate

blippmann 03-05-2012 09:04 PM

i was running no plate and with the smoke screw all the way in with 3k gsk with a 62 mm turbo and was only running 1200 egts then i gutted my afc housing and added a rack plug then i have hit 1800 egts one time and she wouldnt have stopped had i not let out

DodgeFatherRamTheDaughter 03-05-2012 10:54 PM

So i slide it forward star wheel cranked and smoke screw in i should be fine?

fravelj 03-06-2012 07:43 AM

you just turn the wheel toward the engine for more smoke and away from the engine for less i turned mine up some and i dont have a pryrometer and mine doesnt have a fuel plate either

DodgeFatherRamTheDaughter 03-06-2012 09:54 AM

Im not sure i wanna push my luck with the fuel plate but im headin out to crank that wheel now
:c::c:

fravelj 03-06-2012 10:26 AM

mine didnt have it in it when i got it but the guy gave it to me i just havent put it in

The starwheel and smoke screw don't affect max fueling, so it will most likely be running hotter down low, but thats not when your EGT's are a max. Now if you mess with the fuel plate, that's a different story. The fuel plate controls max fueling, so it is directly related to high end EGT's. Before messing with the fuel plate, I would recommend at the very least getting an EGT gauge, and preferably getting a boost gauge and adjusting the wastegate up to about 35psi while your at.

You would probably be alright changing the plate without gauges, but you're already without a job, I'd hate for you to take the chance of being without a truck at the same time :ouch:
