Trans temperatures
 
Hey guys, another trans question for you. Searched and didn't find alot on my Q.*

So I bought my truck about a month ago now, I've been fixing stuff on it ever since. Yesterday I went sledding, towing my 2 stall open trailer with 2 sleds on it, total weight probably around 2500-3000 pounds. My only concern was the trans temp, I have a gauge and it read 165* by the time we got there. If it would have been a really long hilly drive I wouldn't be too concerned but it was only about a half an hour drive and minor hills.

What's the max I should let these temps get to? 180 is what I've always been told? 150* is what I usually run unloaded driving longer distances.
The guy I got it from said it had a built trans and everything but I don't know how much I can trust him on that by what I've been finding with the rest of the truck, seems to shift good, a little hard into OD when your on it up a hill.

The cooler the better, 180 isn't anything to be concerned about getting up to, once you hit 230* they say you cut your tranny life in half. Keep it under 200* with my shift kit (moves fluid in park) mine will warm up to 160 sitting still.

Agreed. 200 is the magic number. As you get above that, the life of the oil decreases. Running 225 or better is where the problems start.
