Default CAT 3126

Hey, I started class the other day and I noticed a CAT 3126 in the shop. It seems to be small enough to fit in a dodge. My question is does anyone know anything about the engine? i now its rated at 215-330 and 700-860 tq, I'm just looking at something to "be different".

It weights like 300-400 more pounds. Could you beef up the front end that much more.

I wouldn't feel it's worth it unless there is an aftermarket line to bring it to life, other than that you're stuck with what you have. Only plus would be the bell housing and different transmissions you could mate with it. Still not a fan of HUI's anyways.

Well my instructor said there is a place that has the different bell housing u can use. So id mate it to a beefed up 47rh. And edge has a computer that you can get 35% more power out of them. But i mean they got 800 lbtq that should be plenty. idk maybe i look into another motor a friend was telling me about when we were talking about the 3126. A detroit 4 banger 2stroke turbo in a little ranger or s10.

Hahahahaha 4 banger 2 stroke eh? That ranger will sound like its tearing up the world... And going no where doing it. I love me a 2 stroke Detroit tho, nothing sounds quite like it. Wouldn't happen to be going to UNOH, would you?

800+ ft lb torque is nice, but you'd have to rely entirely on gearing to get you down the road. It'd get up and go, but fall out of its power curve, being designed for small excavator use etc. its probably rated for 2100 rpm and its "sweet spot" is probably 1700rpm... Definately not impossible but I'm sure you'd run thru a gear set or two before getting it dialed in.

You really can't beat a ppump 5.9 cummins for simplicity and cheap horsepower. By the time you do the swap and spend the money to gain power you could have a dependable 500 horse or more 5.9 cummins. I really don't like the cat electronic engines, to complicated and high priced to work on. different is great but it cost a lot of bucks. Hard to beat a tried and true setup.
