In the colder weather I have to press on the accerlator a little when it's cranking over and hold it for a while to get it to stay running. Is this normal??? Thanks

 

i have a 95 cummins and it does the same thing in 50 degree or lower do you plug it in over night?

 

Not yet. Because I get my license at the end of the month so I will be driving it every day after that. How do you check to make sure your block heater works?

 

use a test light. and for starting and staying running id say to bup idle up i have mine at 1000rpm in neutral no a/c on helped a it a lot

 

Mine is doing the same.

 

I would check fuel pressure, set idle and injection timing. Also would probably have injectors freshend up. In other words a tune up.

 

lfold down your driverside sun viser &read what it says there about cold weather starting.i believe it gives instructions as to this &it's normal.i have an 89 w/95 motor &unless i have it plugged in i have to use the throttle too.

 

Pretty normal for the p pump they can be a pain in the *** to start in the cold I had to jump our 98 12v and start it 3 times pushing the pedal and it was only 3 below, now my 93 starts like a dream no matter what last year I started it on the coldest day of the year at 28 below with a 50 below wind chill with out even being pluged in and no ether, fired up first crank but it billowed smoke for like 30 minutes.

 

I start my truck year round with half throttle then immediate let off, old habit from dealing with cold blooded tractors my whole life.

 

I start my cummins year round with the throttle just cracked and then let off once it starts and i live in Florida. i cranked the governor springs in a bit too much and ever since it starts easier this way, its not hurting anything and your truck doesn't have anything wrong either. I wouldn't worry about it, I spend a solid minute starting my truck every day . gotta pull the string thats tied to the bad fuel cutoff solenoid, insert any key, press brake(no park brake and i park on a slope), clutch, crack throttle(3 feet would be ideal), start, flip separate switch for radio, separate switches for headlights and running lights if its night time . its a process. when i get in my other truck i initially want to crack the throttle and i end up looking for a string under the dash.
