cummins block heater

im assuming my block heater isnt working in my 94 cummins motor any ways to relly test to see if is functional? any ideas how to remove one?

Multimeter set to continuity, one probe in each side of the plug, see if you get a tone. Depends if its factory or aftermarket. Some pound in like a freeze plug others are held in place with a bolt or allen screw with a backet that goes into the block.

its factory no allen head holding it ill try the continuity idea and see whats up im assuming it doesnt work because it doesnt start any easyer when its plugged it or the water temp doesnt warm up any faster when its plugged in

could be your relays.. i thought all mine was bad too and i did some experimenting and it turned out to be my exciter wire on the relays so i cut the ends off of it.. put the ends on new wire.. and got me a heavy duty push button switch and now they are manuel, the timer on the wait to start still works. the colder it is. the longer the light stays on and i keep them pressed in. you could take your intake horn off put a jumper between them and the battery one at a time and look at the grid.

no thats not it if you noticed i said block heater not intake heater the cummins is in a f350 and already wired accordingly the block heater is what isnt working read the post before you reply

ok tested the block heater with th continuty tester and its dead i did see the allen head on the blug is there a specifiv way to remove those so the flap on the inside doesnt fall into the block?

Loosen it some work it loose... It's a guess and check system lol but they def give you enough length on the bolt so that doesn't happen

94cummins12v 11-26-2011 02:04 PM

so loosen it up and try to faness the entire thing out?

Red_Rattler 11-26-2011 06:22 PM

yep, it'll come out easily. Go buy the new one the same style and look at that one to get a good grasp on what you have to do.
