97 2500 4x4 12v auto, new owner, what to look for?

I just purchased a 97 Dodge 2500 quad cab auto 4x4 12v, runs strong, shifts good, front end feels snug, no leaks, no blowby, new doors and a new bed on it with an immaculate laramie interior and only 170k miles.

So now that I am the proud new owner of this beast, are there some specific things I should pay attention to? Obviously its going to get a fresh oil change, and fuel filter change and air filter if needed but are there some glaring issues with the 12v that require attention? I believe this is a completely stock rig. I don't intend on tuning it, I want to keep it for the most part stock and as reliable as possible.

One thing I did find issue with is the cruise control, it is on the steering wheel and lights up but doesn't work, I have a feeling its the clock spring in the steering wheel causing the issue but would like to hear from others.

Do the killer dowel pin fix and include a new seal for the crank. Get rid of the catalytic converter at least if you don't have to do the smog thing in your area. A full 4" system would be the best. Take a good look at your track bar on the front end, maybe swap out with Luke's link or an aftermarket setup. Delete the fuel heater when you do all the filters. Run about 1oz per gallon two stroke oil in your fuel. Inspect the boot on the fuel shut down solenoid and replace if needed. A good set of gauges won't hurt even if you stay stock.

That's a good looking truck!

I live in michigan, we don't have inspections so the catalytic converter and exhaust is not a big deal, the KDP is a big issue and needs to get fixed quickly, had a previous 98 dodge with the death wobble, not fun, agree on the 2stroke oil, but due to our cold climate here, would the fuel heater be a benefit or is it pretty much useless?

You got it, that fuel heater is "pretty much useless" just another place to leak or let air into your fuel system. Remember you have a huge filter full of cold fuel between the heater and the pump.
