how much horsepower can i make with a shift kit

just what the title says i plan on getting a shift kit for my truck and how much horsepower can she handle. tc and vb are a little expensive

BACONBITSFORU 10-11-2011 04:00 PM

You got to pay to play

South Tx Coal Roller 10-11-2011 05:27 PM

Depends on what condition your trans was in before the shift kit. I just installed a DTT shift kit, billet accumulator, and billet servo. With the mods in my sig I don't have any issues other than the stock converter stalls about the time I start defueling lol. I wouldn't go beyond 300hp or so without a billet input and a good triple disk converter. Autos aren't cheap but neither is getting towed AND having to do a rebuild.

turbo2332 10-11-2011 06:25 PM

i just but a kit in my VB works great. i need to get the gauges on it to see what kind of pressures its putting out but it shifts firm and clean. im about 400hp

96dodge12valve 10-12-2011 12:19 PM

any good brands that dont cost a lot of money for now looking for 500hp thanks for the help

South Tx Coal Roller 10-12-2011 01:33 PM

DTT's kit is around $300 and I'm happy with it so far.

Baconbitsforyou is right

YOU'VE... GOT... TO... PAY... TO... PLAY...

just start saving your money and do one thing at a time. Thats what ive been doing the past two years. it sucks cuz theres a lot i want to do to my truck and would love to do it right now but i would rather spend the money and know my truck isnt going to fail rather than throw cheap ass parts at her. good luck man.

96dodge12valve 10-13-2011 08:55 AM

a billet single and shift kit would work for now, how much money do i need to spend to get to at least 550hp don't tow super heavy, or how much can i make with the billet single and shift kit. anything in 4-5 range works thanks

trying to go in the right setup might take a while

kieron_kohlmann 10-13-2011 03:24 PM

I put in a transgo kit. Shifts great!

monster12valve 10-13-2011 07:42 PM

put in a diesel performance converters single disk or a diamond t single disk and a shift kit that will help alot.

96dodge12valve 10-14-2011 11:26 AM

thanks. for helping me go in the right direction with this, then next after i addressees the trans i will move on to gauges

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

i found a reman $800 from diesel performance converter. triple disk good i deal or what

monster12valve 10-14-2011 07:44 PM

i have searched them and hear nothing but good stuff!:tu:

joey 10-14-2011 10:05 PM

if your gunna pull the trans to put in a better flex plate and converter you might wanna spend the extra 750 and put billet imput shaft in as well. Because when that shaft breaks it dosent only break the shaft it messes up the whole front end. I dont know just what happend to me when i tryed to go the same way your going.

Lostnwalmart 10-15-2011 10:19 AM

precision makes a god billet single disc too.

monster12valve 10-15-2011 02:22 PM

also check out DTT trans. they have good prices and quality stuff too.:c:

Phil Taylor (Diesel Performance Converters) builds one of the Best TCs you can buy. I highly recommend one.

i would say none with a crappy stock auto its bound to break sooner or later

sorry i haven't been on lately. the $300 scares me a little bit. but do i have to get a vb to help hold the 450hp

and how much toque will it hold the single billet from dpc

Phil told me his reman single is meant for stock to lightly modified trucks. With the mods in my sig he said I would be pushing it so I went with his reman triple and couldn't be happier! Do a tripple and a good shift kit (I like DTT) and if you can afford it a billet input and flexplate.

96dodge12valve 11-02-2011 08:55 AM

i think a #10 fuel plate and a little bigger injectors. boost elbow:rocking:

any ideas on that setup with a single billet and a shift kit

this will happen once the trans gets ready so far i need a lot more money and repairs aren't helping any:w2:

i dont want to sound like a jerk by any means. but if 300 dollars scares you, and you want 450 hp, i dont think you have any idea what your getting yourself into. trust me, ive been there

and 450 on a stock auto is just not even realistic. with mild injectors i ripped my auto apart in like 2 days, literally. thats why i now run the 5 speed

96dodge12valve 11-04-2011 03:25 PM

money is "very" short right now. i am taking baby steps in this build. 450-500 hp total this is going to take 4-5 years maybe :argh:

ok whats needed (size turbo, injectors, etc) then what should i put in the tranny. so i get a general idea about the cost, because yall know a heck of a lot more then i do with diesels.
the truck is going to be a daily driver with some track use might do a 10psi boost launch. thanks so much for the help,
this is going to take a long time but its going to be done right the first time

BACONBITSFORU 11-04-2011 05:59 PM

300 bucks for a Tc is right in my price range lol

96dodge12valve 11-05-2011 12:42 PM

Can anybody tell me total cost to get to 550hp :w2:
I know prices vary but average range of cost:argh:

South Tx Coal Roller 11-08-2011 01:10 PM

That depends a lot on what your wanting to do with the truck. Is it going to be your dd?

96dodge12valve 11-08-2011 02:06 PM

yes it will be a dd. with some strip use. i want mostly to get milage with a set up

South Tx Coal Roller 11-08-2011 02:34 PM

You can get a reliable 500hp for around $3k-$4k. Also keep in mind you'll have to spend about the same building your trans to take it.

96dodge12valve 11-08-2011 02:45 PM

would a billet triple and vb and input shaft do the trick i am just saying :w2:

South Tx Coal Roller 11-08-2011 03:04 PM

A full rebuild would be best, that's only another $600 or so. I say "only" as in compared to the price of the total build lol.

96dodge12valve 11-08-2011 03:33 PM

ya, i don't plan on this build any time soon because of how short my cash flow is. and i got a little money saved for repairs if some thing breaks on it. i am trying to see about a good setup that wont be a smokey mess might get a single turbo and a water meth system. also

:argh:this might take about 2-3years depending on cash flow :argh:

South Tx Coal Roller 11-10-2011 11:20 AM

I hear ya on the cash flow thing. I have a slight coolant leak from my head gasket and I'm trying to save up enough to get studs, 60lb springs, and maybe have the head machined flat if it's not true while it's off. Still need to do a billet input too so I can finally run some 5x.012 or 14 sticks. If only I was a rich man lol.

96dodge12valve 11-11-2011 03:33 PM

Same here If only diesel was about 3.00 everything else might be cheaper

South Tx Coal Roller 11-11-2011 04:01 PM

I still remember when diesel was under a dollar a gallon, and I'm only 29! A few weeks ago gas dropped below $3 a gallon and I found myself thinking "wow that's cheap" lol.

96dodge12valve 11-16-2011 09:26 PM

wish it was that way now maybe food and such would be cheaper over time less cost of fuel might lower food cost idk
